Saggar Fired Ceramics

Ceramic Art is one of the oldest art forms of civilization. The hand made Ceramic Arts includes pottery & sculpture, both of which are formed from soft earth. Clay is shaped into vessels for pottery and endless forms for sculpture. Air dried clay objects are fired in a kiln, a chamber that heats the clay to over 1000 degrees F (up to 2400oF) transforming it into a stone-like material known as ceramic.

The ceramic art form has been developing since the dawn of civilization when people began to discover clays’ hidden capabilities. Throughout the ancient world and right into modern times, the ceramic arts have benefited our world with beauty, function and innovation.

Today, contemporary ceramic artists continue to root their work in ancestral traditions, while applying 21st century technology, guided by a personal aesthetic vision. Brenda McMahon is one such artist, producing fine saggar fired porcelain vases, urns, and carved tile murals.

The ceramic art found at Brenda's Studio is all hand made and one-of-a-kind, in both porcelain and stoneware clays.
